Join us on this 15 days journey to discover the soul of South India, where every destination tells a story and every moment is a memory in the making. This itinerary provides a comprehensive experience of South India’s rich cultural heritage, diverse landscapes, and natural beauty.
Begin your South Indian adventure in the bustling metropolis of Chennai. Arrive Chennai airport and transfer to Hotel, if time permit Visit Marina Beach, one of the longest urban beaches in the world, and marvel at the historic Kapaleeshwarar Temple with its stunning Dravidian architecture. Explore Fort St. George, a testament to the British colonial era, before settling in for the night.
After Breakfast checkout from Hotel and drive to Mahabalipuram (around 2 hrs drive). Arrive and check in to hotel. Later in the afternoon, explore the heritage of Mahabalipuram temples, built in the 7th and 8th centuries AD, showcasing antique sculptural marvels.
Mahabalipuram is significant in Indian history and architecture, making it a major attraction for archaeological enthusiasts. It is the only place in India where Cave Architecture, Monolithic Architecture, and Structural Architecture coexist. The long stretch of clean beach offers peaceful relaxation.
Mahabalipuram is an outstanding example of Pallava art and architecture. The monuments are floodlit at night, allowing their beauty to be enjoyed even after sunset. Key sites include:
Arjuna’s Penance : The world’s largest bas-relief.
Cave Temples : Notably, the Mahishasuramardhini cave depicts the goddess fighting a demon on one side and Lord Vishnu’s cosmic sleep on the other.
Five Rathas : Rock-cut temples that are excellent examples of Pallava art, each shaped in different styles and carved from a single rock formation.
After an early breakfast, drive to Kanchipuram for sightseeing (around 2 hrs drive, one way). Begin your sightseeing with the Ekambareswarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is one of the largest temples in Kanchipuram, known for its tall gopuram (gateway tower) and the sacred mango tree believed to be over 3,500 years old.
Next, visit the Kailasanathar Temple, an architectural marvel and one of the oldest temples in Kanchipuram. It is renowned for its intricate carvings and unique structure.
Head to the Varadharaja Perumal Temple, dedicated to Lord Vishnu. This temple is famous for its beautiful sculptures and the massive stone chain carved from a single piece of granite.
If interested, Visit a silk weaving center to see the famous Kanchipuram silk sarees being made. You can learn about the intricate process of weaving and perhaps purchase some sarees as souvenirs.
Later return to Mahabalipuram and night stay.
After breakfast checkout from hotel and drive to Pondichery (around 2 – 2.30 hrs drive). Enroute visit Auroville, an experimental township aimed at realizing human unity. Arrive and check in to hotel.

It is renowned for its unique blend of Indian and French cultures, picturesque beaches, and colonial architecture. The town’s well-planned streets, beautiful promenades, and serene atmosphere make it a popular destination for travelers seeking a peaceful retreat with a touch of historical charm.
After fresh-up, sightseeing, visit :

After breakfast checkout from hotel and drive to Tanjore (around 4 hrs drive). If interested, en route visit Chidambaram, Gangaikonda Cholapuram and Dharasuram Temples.
Chidambaram is a Hindu temple dedicated to Lord Nataraja, a depiction of Lord Shiva as the cosmic dancer. This ancient temple, spanning over 50 acres, is a significant site of worship and pilgrimage, known for its distinctive Dravidian architecture. Gangaikonda Cholapuram is a historic site renowned for its grand Brihadisvara Temple, built by Rajendra Chola I in the 11th century. The temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is a masterpiece of Chola architecture, featuring a towering vimana (central tower) and intricate carvings. The site commemorates the Chola emperor’s conquests and served as the empire’s capital. Today, Gangaikonda Cholapuram is celebrated for its architectural splendor and historical significance, drawing visitors and scholars interested in South India’s cultural heritage.
Dharasuram is renowned for the Airavatesvara Temple, a magnificent example of Chola architecture. Built in the 12th century by Rajaraja Chola II, this UNESCO World Heritage site is dedicated to Lord Shiva. The temple is celebrated for its intricate stone carvings, detailed sculptures, and its chariot-shaped structure. The Airavatesvara Temple reflects the artistic and architectural prowess of the Chola dynasty and is a significant cultural and historical landmark, attracting visitors and scholars from around the world.

After an early breakfast, checkout from hotel and drive to Alleppey (around 4 hrs drive), also known as Alappuzha, is a picturesque town in Kerala, renowned for its intricate network of backwaters, lush greenery, and tranquil ambiance. One of the most unique and popular ways to experience this region is through a stay on a traditional houseboat, known locally as a “kettuvallam.” Your houseboat has bedrooms with attached toilet, a dining area cum sit out.
